Electrical Designer
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah 84111
Position Summary
The Electrical Designer supports the planning, design, and documentation of electrical building systems for commercial, institutional, and specialty AEC projects. This role works under the direction of licensed engineers and senior design staff to develop code-compliant, coordinated, and constructible electrical solutions throughout all phases of project delivery.
The position contributes to project success through accurate BIM modeling, construction documentation, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Essential Responsibilities
Electrical Systems Design & Documentation
Assist in the design and layout of power distribution systems, including service equipment, feeders, panelboards, and branch circuitry.
Prepare lighting layouts and lighting control documentation consistent with project requirements and energy codes.
Support the development of electrical plans, details, schedules, and specifications.
Coordinate electrical system routing with architectural, mechanical, structural, and technology disciplines.
Assist engineers with load calculations, equipment coordination, and system documentation.
BIM Modeling & Technical Production
Develop and maintain Revit models and AutoCAD drawings in accordance with company standards.
Incorporate design revisions and maintain drawing accuracy throughout project phases.
Assist in preparing permit, bid, and construction document sets.
Project Coordination
Participate in internal coordination meetings and interdisciplinary design reviews.
Support project managers in maintaining design schedules and deliverable milestones.
Communicate effectively with team members to resolve design conflicts and coordination issues.
Construction Administration Support
Assist with reviewing contractor submittals and shop drawings for compliance with design intent.
Respond to RFIs and provide documentation updates as directed.
Participate in site visits and field observations to support proper system installation.
Qualifications
Proficiency in:
Revit and AutoCAD
Bluebeam
Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of:
National Electrical Code (NEC)
lighting controls and energy code requirements
construction documentation standards
Preferred Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:
Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or industry certification
Experience with commercial, healthcare, education, civic, or large mixed-use projects
Familiarity with short-circuit, coordination, or arc-flash study processes
Knowledge of sustainable design strategies and high-performance electrical systems

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Extended hours and weekend work are sometimes required to meet deadlines.
Education and Experience:
Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
3–6+ years of electrical design experience in the AEC consulting industry
Demonstrated experience preparing electrical construction documents for building projects
