Salt Lake City Public Safety Complex

Salt Lake City Corporation / Salt Lake City, Utah

The $125 million Public Safety Complex comprises 175,480 SF of space, on four levels above ground, to accommodate over 300 public safety employees. Our team performed comprehensive MEPT services for the project.

The nation’s first certified net-zero public safety building, it houses the Salt Lake City Police and Fire departments with fully redundant mechanical systems so that it can function as an emergency operation center after a magnitude 7.5 earthquake. The facility is not only LEED® Platinum, and as a net-zero sustainable design, the building will produce at least as much emissions-free renewable energy as it would otherwise consume if obtained from emissions-producing energy sources.

The complex is home to a combined dispatch center and Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The remainder of the site is a public plaza. Two levels below-grade, enclosed, and secure, the parking structure accommodates 372 vehicles and 30 motorcycles.

Specialized technology systems designed include dispatch systems and equipment, radio and 911 systems, AV systems for the entire facility (including the EOC, which includes massive flat-screen displays), voice/data cabling for supporting this data-intensive facility, and telephone and data systems.

Spectrum Engineers and Colvin Engineering completed this project before the merger.
