Electrical Retro-Commissioning & Facility Inspection Specialist

Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, motivated, and knowledgeable Engineering Technician. Seeking candidates who enjoy applying their existing knowledge and talents, while also learning new skills. In this role, you will work with architectural and engineering teams to perform technical field investigations across commercial and industrial facilities. Your primary focus will be evaluating existing electrical distribution systems, performing facility condition assessments, capturing accurate field conditions, performing 3D LiDAR scans, and documenting floorplans and single-line diagrams for capital planning and facility remodels.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Journeyman Electrician, Industrial Maintenance Technician, Facility Maintenance Technician, or Field Surveyor looking to transition into a high-value electrical inspection and facility assessment role.
Essential Responsibilities
Field Inspection & Verification: Conduct physical, inspections of commercial and industrial electrical distribution equipment (switchgear, panelboards, transformers, MCCs, disconnects).
Electrical One-Line & Floorplan As-Builts: Trace electrical distribution circuits to map, sketch, and update single-line diagrams and facility electrical floorplans.
Facility Condition Assessments: Assess physical equipment condition, aging infrastructure, and installation compliance to support client capital planning and remodel initiatives.
3D Reality Capture: Operate 3D LiDAR scanners to capture accurate point-cloud spatial data of electrical rooms and facility interiors.
Technical Documentation: Review customer’s existing facility and electrical drawings, using software or paper in the field to generate updated facility electrical as-built drawings, using other software to generate reports and project status reports.
Qualifications
Electrical Literacy: 3+ years of experience working directly with commercial or industrial electrical distribution systems (as a Journeyman Electrician, Industrial Technician, Field Inspector, or Commissioning Tech).
Drawing Literacy: Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and sketch single-line diagrams (one-lines), floorplans, and electrical submittals.
Technical Aptitude: Comfort operating tablet/smartphone-based field applications and learning high-tech field instruments (3D laser scanners, cameras, and audit tools).
Safety First: Strong familiarity with electrical safety standards (NFPA 70E compliance, PPE requirements, and OSHA guidelines).
Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting facility findings and interacting with client site managers.
Preferred Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:
Prior experience operating 3D LiDAR scanners (Leica, Faro, Trimble, or Matterport).
Basic familiarity with drafting or modeling software (AutoCAD, Revit) or power system software (SKM, ETAP, EasyPower).
ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector (E2), IAEI Certified Electrical Inspector, or Licensed Journeyman/Master Electrician credentials.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Extended hours and weekend work are sometimes required to meet deadlines.
