Electrical Engineering Intern
Location: Salt Lake City
Position Summary
The Electrical Engineering Student Intern provides technical support to electrical engineering and design teams on a variety of building system projects. This position offers practical experience in the planning, design, and documentation of electrical systems for commercial, institutional, and specialty AEC projects.
The internship is intended to provide exposure to real-world engineering consulting practices, multidisciplinary coordination, and construction documentation processes while supporting professional development and academic learning.
Essential Responsibilities
Engineering & Design Support
Assist in the preparation of electrical design drawings and documentation for building projects.
Support development of power distribution layouts, lighting plans, and basic electrical details.
Assist engineers with load calculations, equipment coordination, and design data organization.
Help review design documents for accuracy, completeness, and coordination.
BIM Modeling & Technical Production
Assist in developing and updating Revit models and AutoCAD drawings in accordance with company standards.
Support updates to construction document sets during various project phases.
Organize and maintain project files and drawing records.
Project Coordination Exposure
Participate in internal project meetings and coordination sessions.
Observe multidisciplinary collaboration between architectural, mechanical, structural, and technology teams.
Assist with research related to codes, standards, and product selection.
Construction Administration Exposure
Support review of submittals and RFIs under the supervision of engineering staff.
Participate in site visits or field observations when appropriate.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
Completion of at least sophomore or junior-level coursework preferred
Basic understanding of:
electrical circuit principles
power and lighting systems
engineering design fundamentals
Familiarity with:
Microsoft Office
basic CAD or Revit exposure preferred
Preferred Experience
Prior internship or cooperative education experience in engineering or construction environments
Exposure to Revit, AutoCAD, or electrical modeling tools
Strong interest in building systems design and consulting engineering
